CONVENTION RECAP

Another ARBA Convention is in the books. Grand Rapids was the first that I've been able to attend. I can personally say I had a great time. It was amazing seeing so many high quality examples of every breed in one building. One variety that really caught my eye were the orange jersey woolies. Even though I don't yet own a Netherland Dwarf, I joined the National ND Club. They have the most awesome newsletter I've ever seen for an individual breed club. Actually to call it a newsletter would be an insult as it's more like a magazine. It certainly will help me in my future intention to own an ND someday. It was reported that the final tally of rabbits entered in the convention was just above 23,000!

There is a lot of bitching and moaning going on in many of the rabbit message boards about bad experiences at convention. Most of the complaints were about the check-in and check out experience. While it is true that I did not have to go through any of that because I didn't show, I just have to believe that there won't be a few problems with the monumental task of getting all these rabbits in and out. There are reports of rabbits and cavies being missing and stolen. I have read all the same complaints on the message boards after every convention. It's truly a shame that there are people in the rabbit community that would steal others rabbits but I guess that's human nature and will never change.

The tort lionheads did not pass the presentation. Since this was the 2nd attempt at a 2nd presentation, the COD now passes to Gail Gibbons. The presentation failed because of missing teeth in one of the bucks. Although the presentation failed, I want to personally thank Arden for all the time, blood, sweat and tears he has put into getting the torts passed.

Next years convention will be held in Louisville, KY and 2009 will be in San Diego, CA.
