I realize in a previous post I said I hadn't lost interest in this site and planned to keep it going. However after much thought, I've decided to hang it up. Many factors have had me come to this conclusion. Mostly because of my current unemployment and some family health issues I really don't have the time to devote to site anymore and what my vision for it has been when I first started it up. It's no big secret that I've not updated as much as in the past and those factors have contributed to that. The domains www.allamericanrabbit.net and .org are no longer working. If you were lucky enough to still access the site through a google search and the blogger.com domain and read this, I thank you for visiting. If you are here for the first time visiting from a google search, I still encourage you to browse through the archives and enjoy some of the great rabbit photos I've taken in the early years at various shows.

Once again I would like to thank those of you who visit this site on a regular basis. I apologize to for not updating as much as I have in the past, but rest assured, it does not mean that I have lost interest. However there is something I must give you a heads up on.

If you currently access this site through www.allamericanrabbit.org that domain will expire on September 29th and I do not plan to renew it. However you can access this site through the more popular www.allamericanrabbit.net . Therefore, the .org domain will go away, but .net will still work.Got that? Good.

In other news I would like to congratulate ARBA District 9 director Eric Stewart on being selected the new ABRA Executive Director. Eric has always been an awesome judge and director on a local level and while he will be missed in those functions, his vibrant personality, knowledge and people skills will serve him well as he leads a worldwide organization. While this weekend is the big one for football fans, next weekend is the biggest weekend for PA. state rabbit breeders. February 7th & 8th is the annual PASRBA Annual Convention at the Lebanon Expo Center. Last year over 12,000 rabbits were shown there. If you enjoy seeing some of the rare breeds that are not normally shown at small local shows, it's the place to go. There is a slight possibility that I might go, but no guarantees with the weather and all.

All this weekend, Animal Friends in Pittsburgh, PA is celebrating the Steelers being in the big game on Sunday by offering reduced adoption fees all weekend, just $43. Of course that includes rabbit adoptions. That's a serious bargain when consider all adoptable rabbits are already spayed and nuetered. That's it for now and GO STEELERS!!!

The Rabbit Talk In Ohio forum, which is one of the best out there, is moving. The original forum was hosted by MSN and MSN is eliminating forums as of February 1st. February 25, 1906 to November 3, 2008

With the passing today of Oren Reynolds the American Rabbit Breeders Association lost its strongest leader and father. Oren gave his heart and soul to the ARBA his entire life. He had recently struggled with his health but his mind was still sharp. He cared about the ARBA until the end. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

We love you and salute you dear friend! Rest in peace!

The biggest event of the year for rabbit breeders begins this Sunday. It's the 85th Annual American Rabbit Breeders Convention. This year it is being held at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center in Louisville. While the convention is held for breeders, anyone can enter the Exposition Center and view the rabbits and admission is free. You will never see more rabbits in one place than at the National Convention, usually between 15 and 20 thousand. You will also see many breeds that often are not shown at smaller local shows. I was able to attend last years convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I must say it is something every rabbit person should see at least once. So if you are anywhere near Louisville you should make a point to check it out. The ARBA national convention is October 26-30. For more information click "here."

First I would like to thank all of you who stop by here on a regular basis. It's been a different year for me in 2008 since I lost my job in January. Long time readers may have notice there wasn't as much rabbit show news and photos this year. The reason for this is the combination of lack of personal funds for me to attend the shows and the price of gas. I honestly have no excuse for at least not posting show dates and schedules as I have in the past. I need to work to change that.

I say all of this to give you all some good news. I have just renewed the domain name www.allamericanrabbit.net for another year. While it is no guarantee that this site will continue for another year, it will for the foreseeable future. It is encouraging to me when I see the hit counter go up every day that enough people stop by that it's worth my time to keep doing it. I will continue to try to have the best rabbit related news from around the world, right here on at least a weekly basis. Have a great fall season!

This came in my email today from Mary Cvetan, president of the Pittsburgh House Rabbit Club:
In September 2004, Hurricane Frances spawned powerful storms all the way up
the East Coast. One of those storms flooded several towns in Pittsburgh,
including Millvale, Etna and Shaler. Three rabbits were found roaming near
the Millvale floodwaters. The male was named Ivan; the females, both
pregnant, were given the names Louise and Frances. A few days later, Frances
gave birth to Ariel, Kate, Cordelia and Truman.

The following summer, July 2005, Animal Friends Humane Agents rescued a
family of rabbits from a field in South Park: parents Lucinda and Elliot
and their babies, Elmer, Esteban, Hermoine and Evelynn.

Months passed, then years.

Eventually, Truman and Evelynn met during the Bun Runs at Animal Friends.

They flirted. They romanced. They seemed, to all observers, to be quite
infatuated with each other.

And today,

a few hours ago,

THEY GOT ADOPTED!

WOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!

They are going to their new home TOGETHER with a couple who just lost their
10-year-old bunny.

The Bun Runs will just not be the same without "T is for Trouble," but I'm
sure those of you who know Truman will be celebrating this wonderful news
too.

Yay!

A new episode of The Rabbit Show on talkshoe.com airs Sunday at 9pm EST. Since I was not able to book a special guest in time, I will do open chat. I will throw out some topics and invite listeners to call in. Please join in if you can.

There is one rabbit show in the Tri-State area this Sunday. That's the Stark County, Ohio show. It will be held at the County Faigrounds in Canton. Sorry, but I won't be able to make it to that one.

While it's not rabbit related, next Friday on the Today Show on NBC there will be a feature on the Red Collar Society adoption program at the Animal Friends shelter here in Pittsburgh. Since I volunteer there in the rabbit department, I just figured I'd give them a free plug. It's a big weekend in the rabbit world. As we speak, the Ohio Mini-Convention is being held in Columbus through tomorrow afternoon at the State Fair grounds. This is one of the biggest rabbit shows in the country, so worth attending to see all the different breeds that you might not be able to see anywhere else but the National Convention.

Don't forget to join me tomorrow night at 9PM EST for The Rabbit Show on Talkshoe.com. My special guest will be Richard Vaerewyck. Richard lives here in southwestern, PA and is currently the American Rabbit Breeders Association & American Cavy Breeders Association "King." Richard will talk about these youth royalty programs and will also be able to answer any questions about guinea pigs, since he is also an experienced cavy breeder.

If you are in the Pittsburgh area, Animal Friends is having a special Hoppy Hour and Night at the Movies with a showing of Monty Python and the Holy Grail tonight. For more info click "here."

The Butler County. PA Rabbit Breeder Assn. holds it Annual Show this Sunday, April 27th. The show will be held at the Farm Show Grounds, not the County Fairgrounds, so please make note of that. Judging begins at 8:30AM. I plan to be there to take lots of photos that will be published here on the Gazette next week.

Next weekend, May 2,3 & 4 bring the Ohio State R.B.A. Mini Convention in Columbus at the State Fair Grounds. This is usually the biggest show in the U.S.A. if you don't count the National Convention. Many individual breeds hold their Nationals at this show, including Lionheads. I won't be able to make this show because of my current unemployment and ensuing lack of funds. Just a reminder that 2 major breeds will have their National Shows this weekend. The American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club holds it's event in Springfield, Illinois. The show is being held in the retail shopping area at 3231 S. Veterans Parkway. The showroom is right next to Gorman's Department Store. Also the Holland Lop Specialty Club Nationals will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska in the Lancaster Building on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds. If you are a fan of any of these breeds, a national show is the place to be. These are the shows that the best breeders from across the county come to. As you may have noticed from the avatar to the right, The Rabbit Show will return from its hiatus on May 4th on Talkshoe.com.

I'm sorry to have to announce this, but I am postponing all future episodes of The Rabbit Show. The main reason is it seems a group known as The Podcrashers are infiltrating all the show on Talkshoe and using extremely dirty language in the chat rooms. Until Talkshoe takes some measures to give hosts more control over the shows, I am done hosting programming there. I have been assured by the CEO of Talkshoe that they will be working on these steps, so I can't say I will totally drop the show. But until I can chatmute by IP address or something like that, there will be no more shows. I thank all of you who participated in past shows and hope we can start up again soon.

Looks like I'll be charging up the camera batteries again this weekend as the Spring show season begins in earnest in the Tri-State area. The Washington County, PA spring show is this Sunday, the 16th. The is always the biggest show in Southwest Pa. The show is at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Next Saturday the 22nd is the North Coast Netherland Dwarf and Dutch Spring specialty show in Meadville, PA. I am going to try to make both shows and of course will post photos here on the Gazette.

I just found out last night that Peg Flint,a popular lionhead breeder from Texas, announced her flemish giant Tiny, also known as The Bunfather passed away yesterday morning. Peg is a moderator on the Rabbits Online forum and Tiny was one of the most popular rabbits on the forum. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Peg and her family. Rest in peace Tiny.

The PA Farm Show begins today in Harrisburg. Rabbit judging actually took place yesterday. The rabbits will remain on exhibition through the duration of the show, which is next Saturday.
